Cambodia and China Strengthen Cooperation in Education and Technology

Phnom Penh: The Cambodian-Chinese Association in Cambodia, in partnership with Nanjing University of Industrial Technology in China, has inaugurated the University of Technology and Science of Cambodia. This new institution is dedicated to providing higher education and postgraduate courses focused on science, technology, Chinese language, and professional skills in Cambodia.

The inauguration ceremony of the University of Technology and Science of Cambodia was held on Wednesday, December 20, 2023. The event was presided over by Mr. Hang Chuon Naron, the Minister of Education, Youth, and Sports, along with Mr. Wu Yan, the Deputy Minister of Education of the People's Republic of China, and other leaders from Cambodia and China.

In his address during the ceremony, Minister Hang Chuon Naron highlighted the significance of this new university, stating that it represents another achievement in the cooperation between Cambodia and China. He emphasized that enhancing the quality of higher education in science and technology is a crucial strategy for human resource development in Cambodia. The Royal Government of Cambodia has implemented several initiatives to expand higher education, improve training quality, establish higher education centers, strengthen governance, and promote public-private partnerships in human resource development.

Deputy Minister of Education Wu Yan emphasized the importance of education as a strategic investment for the future and the foundation of lasting prosperity. He noted that Cambodia, under the leadership of its new government, has also made the education sector a priority, increasing investment, implementing school reforms, improving teaching methods, and promoting digital education. Cambodia aims to achieve its ambitious goal of becoming a high-middle-income economy by 2030.

The University of Technology and Science of Cambodia (CEMEC) CamTech University offers a wide range of academic programs, including undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees in cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence, data science, cybersecurity, robotics engineering, software development, technology management, and architecture. Additionally, Chinese language classes are provided to equip Cambodian students with global perspectives on international trade, international relations, foreign affairs, negotiation, and diplomacy.

This official inauguration signifies progress and collaboration in higher education between Cambodia and China. It also demonstrates the joint efforts of the two countries to promote the welfare and prosperity of their people and contribute to the future development of the entire Asia-Pacific region.
